In 1953, when our country was still in its swaddling clothes, Ephraim Kishon wrote the play Ketubah (The Marriage Contract). In this story, the author — a subtle psychologist and satirist — invites us to think about what matters more, the human being or the document, and, with lightness and a touch of sadness, explores where love, romance and tenderness go over the monotonous years of marriage…
Kishon is a poetic playwright. Clarity and simplicity of language, aphoristic brilliance — that is his signature style. Albert Avkhodeev, director and stage director of the Volgograd Young Spectator's Theatre, staged Ketubah in his theatre — for the first time in Russian! — and we have just had the chance to see this production in five cities in Israel. An important cultural event took place. To be completely frank, it was a sensation.
