The Volgograd Young Spectator’s Theatre Gave the Public an Exhibition, a Performance and Citrus Fruit
Another unusual exhibition has opened at the Volgograd Young Spectator’s Theatre. It presents the work of two artists at once: Elena Orlova and Valentina Kostochko.
The exhibition opening took place before the performance of The Government Inspector. The premiere of that production was a great success a year ago, and it still draws a full house. So an influx of viewers to the exhibition was guaranteed. Had admission been free, there would probably have been no room to swing a cat in the foyer.
These two wonderful artists are well known and dearly loved in our blessed city — and not only here. Elena Orlova’s sunny, gentle paintings and Valentina Kostochko’s incredible, fantastic ceramics draw one irresistibly toward them and call one after them. It is hard to tear oneself away from these masterpieces; one simply wants to look, to rest one’s soul, and to cherish dreams. Adults and children alike.
This was what Albert Avkhodeev, director of the Young Spectator’s Theatre, spoke about at the opening. Elena Orlova and Valentina Kostochko, in turn, declared their love for the theatre, which manages to give its audiences both fine performances and diverse exhibitions that greatly enrich the artistic life of the city.
Lada Semyonova, star of the Musical Theatre, who happened to be present at the opening, as always delivered a bright and emotional speech about the benefits of visiting the Young Spectator’s Theatre as a kind of cultural center of the hero city.
Among the audience one could also notice our classic, the remarkable writer Boris Ekimov. He did not speak, but perhaps one day he will write something.
In conclusion Albert Avkhodeev announced that the oranges and tangerines placed among the exhibits could be carried off by anyone who wished. This provoked an approving rumble from representatives of the younger tribe, who made up a considerable part of the audience and did not fail to take advantage of the kind invitation.
The citrus fruit had been purchased in abundance by Valentina Kostochko. The orange and bright yellow colors expressively emphasized the irresistible magic of our wonderful artist’s ceramics. The shining color range gained its completion.
The audience received the unusual exhibition very warmly.

An Exhibition by Two Artists at Once Will Open at the Volgograd Young Spectator’s Theatre
An exhibition by two artists at once will open at the Volgograd Young Spectator’s Theatre. Two Volgograd artists, Elena Orlova and Valentina Kostochko, will present their work within the hospitable walls of the Volgograd Young Spectator’s Theatre. The exhibition is dedicated to World Theatre Day and to the Year of Theatre being held in Russia, but the display will also include works on free themes.
Elena Orlova’s marvelous watercolors and Valentina Kostochko’s inimitable ceramics create their own special world, captivating viewers at first sight. Both artists are closely connected with the Volgograd Young Spectator’s Theatre, taking part in the design of productions. In particular, Elena Orlova created the set design for the New Year production How the Baba Yagas Saved the Fairy Tale and the costumes for the already very popular production Alyosha Karamazov.
The exhibition opens on March 30 at 16:20, before the performance of The Government Inspector.
